Pros:

The HP LaserJet P2015 is a compact printer offering quick prints; superb quality text prints and 24×7 tech support. The printer also comes with convenient multipurpose input tray and the per-page print cost for the printer is low.

Cons:

The HP LaserJet P2015’s graphics print quality needs improvement; slightly expensive than some of its rivals and the printer suffered a major reproducible text error in our testing.

Introduction

The HP LaserJet P2015 in general is a decent mono laser printer for small offices, dorm room or casual home users: the printer is fast and compact and generally produces decent graphics and text. Though, the major reproducible print error that occurred in our testing makes us think again. Also the LaserJet P2015 is slightly over priced than some of its potent rivals, for example the Lexmark E350d series. The Lexmark E350d series is a decent value proposition as the printer offers plenty of features for comparatively less money and offers a decent print quality and print speeds.

Design

The HP LaserJet P2015 series is comparatively compact series of mono laser printers, which makes it an excellent fit for slightly messy home offices, dorm rooms and overcrowded apartments. Our review unit of P2015dn measured 14.3 inches deep by 10.1 inches tall by 13.8 inches wide and weighed around 24.3 pounds. there are plenty of combinations of trays available for P2015, and all these permutations such as a built-in duplexer and additional paper trays, adds and subtracts a little to the dimensions and weight of the printer. The printer comes in a muted dark-gray and light color scheme which gives it a plain look.

The primary paper tray of the printer comes out from the frontage of the printer and can store up to 250 sheets of plain paper. There also is a multipurpose input tray which folds out from the printer’s front wall and can hold around 50 sheets of paper, which is a great feature if your printing involves changing of media too often. Almost all the top floor of the printer is taken up by the output well.

The control panel for the printer is also mounted on top of the printer and it comprises of several indicator lights, a cancel button and a go button. The toner options for the printer are also rather straightforward; you either can choose the standard cartridge offering 3000 page prints or can go for the high capacity cartridge of 7,000-pages.

The HP P2015 is available in five variations. The base model, the P2015, is priced at $350, moving slightly up get you the P2015d having a built-in duplexer; this is priced at $400. The third option is of the P2015dn that comes with in-built networking and a duplexer, it is priced at $500 and the last P2015x printer that comes with a second 500-sheet input tray, and is priced at $600. All the models here come with a 32MB of RAM and a 400MHz processor. The RAM here can be upgraded to 288MB.

Performance

The HP LaserJet P2015 delivered significantly fast performance in our performance testing, and considering the fact that all the variants of the printer have the same specifications, we can say the same for all the printers. The P2015 is a decently fast mono printer, delivering text at the rate of 22.13 pages per minute (ppm) and graphics at the rate of 21.29ppm.

Just like the print speeds the print quality for the printer was also rather decent. For most of the part the text printed here was sharp and clean, although, there was a slight jaggedness at very small point size. Graphics prints also were of decent quality.

Support

The HP LaserJet P2015 comes with a one year standard warranty, which is similar to the warranty offered by its rivals, though there is an option of extending the warranty by paying extra. You get a toll-free telephone support 24×7 under warranty period for no cost. For any sort of self troubleshooting there is HP’s Web site offering downloadable software, manuals and drivers; there also is online chat and e-mail to tech support; a troubleshooting guide and FAQs.

Word from the Experts

The HP LaserJet P2015 has just the perfect set of features for a small office or home, but its higher price makes the road touch for the printer.
