HP — On June 3, 2010 | Leave a ReplyPros
The HP DeskJet 460cb Mobile delivers exceptional quality text prints, has Wi-Fi printing as option and printer also has an USB port for connecting storage drives or PictBridge cameras for printing. One good thing about the Wi-Fi version is that it lets you create up to three profiles for the places where you print two often and finally the printer comes with a generous support package.
Cons
The HP DeskJet 460cb Mobile’s text print speeds are not as good as it should have been, and so is the case with photo and Graphics print quality. In addition the printer is comparatively expensive and demands a bag for easy portability.
Introduction
The HP DeskJet 460cb Mobile HP DeskJet 460c is a portable color inkjet printer targeting primarily the businessmen who are constantly on the go and are in desperate need of printing. The print speeds of the printer are on par with the competition, though the performance could have been better, and consistent like Canon Pixma iP90v.
The DeskJet 460cb generates superb quality text prints, but the photo and graphics print here can be much better, which clearly is not at all a big deal, especially considering the motto behind the development of the printer. this is why we think that to get decent quality text print on the go, the $250 HP DeskJet 460cb is a worth buying printer without any doubts.
The HP DeskJet 460cb Mobile is yet another variant of DeskJet 460 printer, which is available in several other variants as well and is priced from $250 to $350, depending upon the built-in features. The DeskJet 460 model we are discussing here is the DeskJet 460cb which comes with an included battery and is priced at $300.

Design
The HP DeskJet 460cb printer is comparatively compact for the transportable inkjet printers, but still is not that light that you can carry it anywhere with you unless it’s not extremely necessary. The DeskJet 460cb measures 6.5 inches deep by 13.4 inches wide by 3.3 inches tall, and weighs around 4.5 pounds without any battery or power adapter. The printer on a whole is comparatively heavier than Pixma iP90v. Though, the printer can easily be carried into a laptop bag, but with all its accessories and peripherals you wish the company would have provided some laptop bags.
The control panel as usual is minimal with only a couple of indicator lights and buttons. The controls include power, resume and cancel buttons while the lights tell you the battery charging status while it the battery is charging. Positioned at the back of the printer, there are two USB ports: one for connecting USB flash drives and PictBridge cameras, and another one for connecting the printer to a PC. The two memory card slots of the printer are being positioned on the side with one being the CF and another one being the MMC/SD.
Apart from printing from the memory cards, the CF slot of the printer is used for enabling wireless printing over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, with the help of an appropriate adapter. One impressive thing about the printer is that it lets you store three different Wi-Fi printing profiles for the places where you print most of the times. These profiles can be accessed using a three-way switch positioned on the back of the printer. So the overall design and controls of the printers are just as we expected them to be.

Performance
Just as we told earlier, the text printing speed for the HP DeskJet 460cb Mobile is exceptional, the printer proved us right by trailing just only Canon Pixma iP90v. But the printer was faster in color graphics prints. For the black text the printer took 4.88ppm and was way behind the speed of Canon, which delivered 6.24ppm. For the color graphics the printer printed at a rate of 1.89ppm, and was tad but ahead Canon that printed 1.42ppm. Although the scenario reversed in 4 x 6 photo printing, with the printing 0.53ppm, while for the same canon took 0.68ppm.
Like all the other HP DeskJet 460 printers we’ve reviewed earlier, this HP DeskJet 460cb also delivered laser quality text prints, with sharp, dark and accurate characters. Apart from the text prints, the quality for rest of the prints was poor, especially with the photo prints. But all this can easily be neglected if you consider the main aim of the printer. So whatever quality it delivers, it clearly is sufficient for the modern on-the-go businessmen or people who are in desperate need of printing.
